Lesson 2: ANOVA Foundations

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version
Key Learning Goals for this Lesson:
  • Mastery of basic computations for Single Factor ANOVA
  • Computations for the Tukey mean comparison method
  • Review of other mean comparison methods

In this lesson we will get started to really learn about ANOVA by introducing the  notation and the formulas to compute the fundamental quantities necessary to get the F statistic (which is the test statistic we use for the ANOVA) from data.  The testing procedure will be illustrated with the Greenhouse example from Lesson 1.  We will then follow-up with the computations necessary to determine WHICH groups differ in the ANOVA.  This allows us to find the labelling letters of the graph (a, ab, b, c) from several different multiple comparison methods.
